Being a Member of the Rural Fire Service - Grose Wold Brigade

There is a misconception that you have to join the RFS as a fire fighter.

While we are happy to have new members join as fire fighters, they are also welcomed as supportive members.There are always jobs to be done, from station and tanker maintenance to catering and administrative duties to callout officers.There is bound to be a niche for you!


Roles in the RFS - what is yours?

Active Firefighter

After completion of basic training the Active Firefighter is able to respond to all incidents that the brigade attends. These can be:

  • Structure Fires
  • Motor Vehicles Accidents
  • Flood and Storm Damage
  • Bushfires

These incidents can be within the Grose Wold area, within other areas in the state, or even interstate. Some of the "Out of Area" assistance we have provided has been to :-

  • 1999 Sydney Hail Damage
  • Bushfires in Walcha NSW
  • Bushfires in Orange NSW
  • 2003 ACT Bushfires
  • 2006 Victorian Bushfires
  • Gosford Storm Damage June 2007
  • Wyong Fires 2007
  • Bushfires Kangaroo Island S.A. 2007
  • Blacktown Storm Damage December 2007


Ordinary Member

Assists in brigade activities but DOES NOT attend incidents. Areas in which an Active Member can assist are: -

  • Fundraising
  • Communications
  • Catering
  • Administration
  • Maintenance of station and surrounds
  • FireWise Street Coordinator
