Our Brigade
We are not a large brigade, currently having a membership of around 50 members, this figure includes Active Firefighters and Supportive Members.
Our members are very involved in all aspects of brigade life from fundraising to firefighting, hazard reductions and training. We also have the occasional social occasion. Most importantly we like to be involved in helping our Community become FireWise.
Do we get paid?
The answer is no. Everything we do for and with the brigade is done as a volunteer.
What sort of incidents does the brigade attend ?
We are predominantly a bush brigade but have responsibility for over 200 homes most of which are on acres as well as being jointly responded to the St John of God Hospital with NSWFB.
We also have responsibility for Woods Reserve which is now a part of the Blue Mountains National Park. Many of the acreages are now being subdivided and there are a lot of new homes currently under construction. The brigade responds to calls not only in our own area, but also out of area for hazard reductions and incident calls with our members responding to the ACT fires, Walcha Fires, Sydney Hail damage, Wollongong floods, ACT and Victorian fires in Jan 2006. We were also heavily involved as volunteers with the Sydney Olympics.
Other Involvments
Several of our members are also involved with the RFSA, with one being the Secretary for the Hawkesbury branch, another an Alternate Delgate for CORE (Catering group).
Grose Wold Brigade relies heavily on our own efforts in fundraising to purchase new equipment for the brigade. To this end we do the yearly clean up of the Hawkesbury Showground during the Hawkesbury Show. We also have an annual doorknock, which helps to fund new purchases.
We are always looking for new members, both supportive and active firefighters.
If you would like to join the brigade please email us and we will arrange to get a membership package to you.
